Appended hereunder are the school codes of conduct:
Dress Code
- Students must be in school uniform during school hours, study hours, school functions and gatherings. Students must dress decently and neatly at all times.
- Boys should wear their Gho at knee length; Lagay and Gong is compulsory component of the formal dress code.
- Girls should wear their Kira above the shoe sole (not dragging).
- Wearing half Kira or belt system Kira in the school is strictly prohibited.
- Wearing of pants inside the Gho is strictly prohibited.
- Students are not allowed to dye the hair and use fancy items like lockets, chains,
- Inappropriate badges and rings. Hair bands should be black in colour.
- Girls’ hair must not be longer than elbow length and must be tied neatly during school and study hours. For Boys, it’s 2x3mm haircut (2 on the sides and back, and 3 on the top).
- Use of other casual wears by the students shall be accordingly intimated as per the needs of the occasions.
- Use of casual wears like muffler, mask and shawls are not allowed.
- Students are not allowed to wear uniform shoes without lace and change shoelace.
Hygiene
- Students must maintain the highest level of personal hygiene and cleanliness everywhere at all times.
- No one should keep finger nails and hair beyond appropriate length.
- Do not spit inside the building. Use dustbin to dispose litter. Keep yourself clean.
- Clean your room (classrooms/hostels) and empty the dustbin every day.
- Do not hang socks and undergarments in the room.
- Keeping school uniform and track suit including other sports gear (such as football boots, socks, etc.) in the class is strictly prohibited.
- Tattooing is strictly prohibited in the school.
Attendance
- At 08:00 am, all student and Leaders for the Week (LFW) must report to the school.
- Everyone must follow the school timings strictly as given in this hand book.
- Students must be punctual in all school activities such as Assembly, classes, games, SUPW, evening prayer, competitions, etc.
- Everybody must be present for the morning assembly. He or she will be marked absent for the whole day if he or she deliberately fails to attend the morning assembly.
- Every student should be present in studies and activities. He or she should have minimum of 90% attendance in study and activities.
- Every student should have 90% class attendance in all subjects. Failing to meet the requirement shall result in cancellation of opportunity to attend the examination.
- Everybody is expected to be inside the study halls during study hours. No one will be allowed to visit the washrooms during study hours.
- Any student failing to report to school within 30 days after term break shall lose his or her opportunity to continue studies.
Leave
Leave shall be sanctioned on the ground of sickness, demise, occasions of National Importance provided the guardians accompany them. The guardian should come and avail leave only on the authorization of parents or immediate guardian.
Leave shall be sanctioned by:
- Class teachers – Leave up to maximum of three days for day scholars.
- Head of Non-academic Affairs – Leave more than three days for day scholars.
- Warden/Matron in consultation with Principal – For boarders.
- Permission for all kinds of leaves will be granted only upon submission of written application (both in Dzongkha and English).
- Day scholar must call to concern leave coordinator along with leave application dully signed by class teacher and must submit to leave coordinator.
Availing leave for boarders:
- For sick leave – student must submit leave application dully signed by school health captain, house captain and warden and must submit to leave coordinator.
- For other leave – warden will forward leave application to concern leave coordinator.
- Leave during study hours will be considered only if it is genuine.
- Anyone who needs to visit hospital will be facilitated by the school health coordinator counter signed by class teacher and Hostel Provosts. The doctor’s medication should be recorded in your respective health record book.
- Outing for boarders will be twice a month. But it must be followed alternatively- Saturday for girls and Sunday for boys. Therefore, short leave like shopping on other days will not be encouraged.
- Any one sick or leave in class or any other activities will be unconditionally marked “ABSENT”.
- Any student who loses the Health Record Book must pay and obtain the duplicate record book.
- No student will take leave during National Functions like National Day celebration.
- Study leave prior to final examination shall be granted for a specified period decided by the school management. However, no student shall be allowed to leave the school campus.
- Students are not allowed to leave the campus during school hours without prior permission. If emergency compels you to leave in ad-hoc, you must have
- permission from class teacher and Warden/ Matron/Head of Students Affairs.
Student Handbook
- Students must carry this hand book during class days.
- Students must write an explanatory letter to the office and buy a new one for lost handbook.
- Students must ask parents or guardians to countersign if teacher makes any
- remarks in the diary.
Substance Use and Gambling
- Gambling of any sort is strictly prohibited in the school.
- Eating tobacco, chewing doma and smoking are not allowed.
- If students are found with or consuming/supplying, selling, buying, or under the influence of any intoxicating substance (includes alcoholic beverage or illegal drugs) will be considered as a serious offence.
Food and Drinks
- Boarder students must compulsorily attend the school meals, i.e., breakfast, lunch and dinner. If he or she misses meals for more than five times his or her privilege to be boarder will be deprived of.
- Day scholar student must attend lunch compulsorily. If he or she misses meals for more than five times his or her privilege of receiving lunch will be deprived of.
- The kitchen is out of bound for all students.
- Students are not allowed to eat in class.
- Students are encouraged to bring their own safe drinking water to the school.
- Students are discouraged from bringing any junk food and plastic item in the school. Remember ‘Punakha Central School is plastic free zone’
School Properties
- Students must take care of school properties. Damaging or destroying school property would entail disciplinary action with fine.
- All doors and windows of class room and hostels should be properly shut during off hours.
- Any school office bearer who loses or damages the badges will be levied the cost of it.
- Writing graffiti on walls and furniture will be considered as a serious misconduct.
- Always remember to turn off water taps and lights when not in use.
- Students residing in the hostel are NOT allowed to alter/shift the bed position after they are arranged by the management.
- In order to protect computers in IT Lab, students must handle the computers carefully and inform school authority when unable to operate.
Electronic Items and Mobile Phones
- Use of Mobiles/cell phones in the school is strictly prohibited. If found, mobile phones will be confiscated and not returned.
- Students must refrain from bringing laptops, computers, music players and other electronic items to school. Any valuable thing should be at owner’s risk. If lost, the school will not provide any investigative support to the individuals.
NOTE: Students to seek prior permission from school administration through their subject teacher for the usage of electronics for learning purpose OR school shall notify for the same.
Relationships
- Students must look upon teachers as parents and fellow mates as brothers and sisters.
- Have respect for teachers and elders and care for anyone younger. Students must make it a practice to greet all the teachers whether they teach you or not and regardless of time and place.
- Use of Mobiles/cell phones in the school is strictly prohibited. If found, mobile phones will be confiscated, and shall be fined and will be returned at the term end.
- Misbehaviour of any sort to teachers or any other staff members will be seriously dealt with, and according to degree of crime, may result in leaving the school.
- Cooperate with school personnel and fellow students.
- Refrain from any action which hinders other students’ safety.
- Assist the Principal and faculty in the operation of the school in making the school a safe place for all students to learn and to develop socially.
- All students should cooperate with all captains.
- Any case of illness/injury in the school should be immediately reported to the office.
- Student to student relationship must always be healthy and for educational purpose. Avoid close relationship with opposite sex.
- Any illicit relationship among students will be viewed as an offence.
- Students should abstain from forming groups and instigating any sort of activities that might hinder the culture of the school.
- Bullying/ragging is a serious criminal act. Forcing or coercing another student to do anything against his/her will is also harassment/bullying. Any one proved guilty of the act shall be liable for serious actions.
- Any act (teasing, abusing, playing practical jokes or hurting) which causes physical or psychological apprehension, fear, and embarrassment to fellow friends will be considered a serious breach of student’s code of conduct.
Homework/Assignment/Project/Exam
- All tests/examinations/class works/home works/project works conducted or assigned in the school should be taken seriously.
- Complete all assignments fully and in a timely manner.
- Any student writing irrelevant comments in the answer scripts will be considered a serious offence.
- Students must adhere to the Rules and Regulations for the conduct of examinations.
- Students should submit all homework, assignment and project reports on time.
- Students must take careful note of the comments given by the teachers in notebooks and project reports.
Library
- All text books/ library books issued to students must be taken care and should pay fines if lost or damaged.
- Students must maintain silence in the library.
- Students must return the books on or before the date specified by the librarian/concerned teacher, failing which is liable to pay fine.
Teaching and Learning
- All students must be prepared to learn and actively participate in learning activities
- Every student is expected to take active participation in the class.
- Respect the right of teachers to teach and students to learn.
- No classes should be conducted outside the classrooms unless required for some practical or field experiments.
- No student shall come out of the class during class hours.
- If there is no teacher in the class for five minutes, monitor must come and inform the concerned teacher.
- Students may change theirstream and drop an elective subject in consultation with class teacher, subject teacher and Academic head and inform Principal.
Language
- Students should refrain from using profane and obscene languages. He or she should always communicate in appropriate language (English or Dzongkha) as directed by the school.
- Always talk softly and avoid wild, uncouth and peculiar noises and sounds.
Weapons
- No student is allowed to keep any sort of dangerous weapons like knife, hammer, chains, screw drivers, pliers, etc.
- In the interest of general wellbeing, school will frequently frisk students and accordingly students are expected to cooperate.
Visiting Hours
- Any visitor in the school should immediately check in the General Office of the school.
- No student is allowed to visit teachers’ quarters without prior permission from the office.
- No day-scholar should loiter in the town after 6:00 pm. They should remain at home and study.
- Day-scholars are strictly prohibited to enter hostel.
- Parents/Guardian should get prior permission from matron/warden before meeting their children.
Parcel Collection
All students must inform respective parents/guardians to reach parcels in the school during off hours or without the disturbance of student’s class. Should there be a need to collect the parcel, the school will depute a staff member to do so during office hours only.
Attitude
- Accept responsibility for one’s own behaviour.
- Every student is expected to render voluntary support for the welfare of the school.
- Cooperate with school officials in the investigation of any violation of school rules.
- Any “Lost and Found” item should be immediately reported to the concerned office bearer.
- Forgery of signature of parents and peers is a serious crime.
Co/Extra-curricular Activities
- Every student is expected to participate in co/extra-curricular activities.
- Activities or tournaments should not be conducted at the cost of studies. If the need is genuinely felt, the organizers must seek prior approval from the authority of the school.
Others
- Every student, at his or her own level, is expected to maintain the Personal Information Record. He or she should be ready to provide any information when required.
- Closing of school due to weather conditions will be intimated in writing by the principal only.
- Students registered as boarder must stay as boarder till the end of academic session.
- Study visits will not be entertained unless prescribed in the syllabus. The prescribed study leave will be sanctioned only after the trial examination.
- Caution/security fee will be refunded at the end of the academic session, which will be done so upon submission of required No Due Certificate.
- Captain’s misconducting will have to surrender the badge in the assembly on the moral ground.
- No class should use door curtains. Window curtains should be used only when necessary (while using LCD projector, etc.)
- Boarder students should use footsteps while returning to hostels after the night study.
- Students who are not interested to watch movie should be either in hostel or classroom.
