On this trek, you will have enchanting view of Mount Jumolhari, Jichu Drake and Tsherimgang mountains. You will also have distant view of Mount Kanchenjongga of Sikkim. The first day of the trek, commences from the Haa Valley at 2670m. We walk north of the Haa Valley through country-side against the stream through yak summer grazing land. After making the last steep ascent for an hour we arrive out campsite at Sagala at 3550m. The last two days of the trek is a walk along the high ridges that offer amazing views of Mountains and Valleys of Paro and Haa beneath. The last leg of the trek is a steep ascent till the Kung Karpo at an altitude of 4350m. Its famous sky burial marked by stone cairns and old mediation hut.
On your flight to Paro, if the weather permits, you will be able to spot snowcapped Himalayas including mount Jumolhari and Jichu Drake in Bhutan. Our guide will be waiting to receive you and transfer to your hotel. Later in the day you will visit Ta Dzong, originally a watch tower now converted into a museum. This 17th century old fortress holds varies displays of antique collections. Next stop is the Rinpung Dzong literal translation –“fortress of heap of jewels.” Another Lhakhang you will visit is the Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most divine temple of Bhutan. Today you will hike to the famous Taktsang Goemba. The monastery has a remarkable history and even looks quite extraordinary perched on a hill side. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava flew here to meditate on the back of a tigress. The hike is about 5 to 6 hours journey through pine forest and rhododendrons, ascending 900 meters above Paro Valley. In the evening, you can explore Paro town. Overnight hotel in Paro.
8 KM, 3 HOURS, 480M ASCENT, CAMP ALT 3150M
You can drive from your hotel to Chungdu Pang, the place used by local people to appease local deity Ap Chungdu by sacrificing their yaks. Your trekking staffs are eagerly waiting for you to accompany you in this trek, so you can meet them and start your trek by following the paved road for about 30 minutes. The trek trails through the left hand-side of the village where you will gradually ascend through the yak herders’ camp. You will be met with two separate trails and the trail on the right-hand-side will be the one to follow. (The left trail leading to the summer yak herding camp and to the border of China should be avoided.) After a final climb you will reach your camp at Sagala at 3,150m and call it a day.
12KM, 5 HOURS, 950 M ASCENTS, 250 M DESCENTS, CAMP ALT 3850M
Climbing for 30 minutes will get you to Sagala pass at 3550m. If the weather is good you will be greeted with a spectacular view of Mount Jomolhari (7,314m) and Jichu Drake (6,989m). Continuing on the trail on the right-hand-side you will be met with interspersed ascents and descents. The trail tracks through rhododendron bushes and serene meadows. At 4100m you will have reached the top of the ridge offering a beautiful view of Haa Valley. You will then make several ascents and descents through hemlock and juniper forests on the way to your camp (3,850m).
13KM, 6-7 HOURS, 500 M ASCENTS, 360 M DESCENTS
After making gradual ascend for 30 minutes you will be following the ridge through the meadows and a yak herders’ camp. You will climb through the forest of tall rhododendrons towards the Kung Karpo Sky Burial at 4350m. Along the climb through the stone cairns to Kung Karpo, you will view the picturesque Haa Valley below. As you walk from the Sky Burial you will not be bored by the magnificent views of Paro Valley on your left and Haa valley on your right. You will also see the Kila Goenpa Nunnery below, and it is not a sight to be missed. As you descend further you will reach your destination. Chelela pass (3,990m) is one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan. At the end of the trek will be a vehicle waiting to escort you to Paro.
After your breakfast, you will be driven to the airport for departure. Our representative will bid you goodbye.
